Saving Money Tips for Newbies

Hi All,

if you are new to using coupons or have never used coupons, then "Welcome!"
Also, if you are local Oregonian there is a great article in the Food/Day pg#1 on "Cutting Cost." The article is about a local gal name Louise, check it out here. There are some great tips that can help in this article.

Here are a few tips:

1. Buy 1-2 Sunday newspapers $2 each or to save money get them from family members or co-workers.

2. Keep the coupon inserts, RP (Redplum), SS (SmartSource), P&G (Proctor & Gamble). Sometimes there are 1-3 inserts or none at all if it's a holiday. Our Blog will post on Saturday's if there are Sunday inserts. You can either clip all the coupons and organize them in a binder shown Here. Or you can keep the Coupon inserts by Sunday dates and file them in an accordion file and use them when an item goes on sale at the Grocery/Drugstore. Also, you will notice that coupons in the Sunday paper usually have a 4 week trend and go on sale after 4 weeks or before or sometimes after 4 weeks.

3. Get a Weekly ad of your Grocery/Drugstore. i.e. Safeway & Albertsons Weekly ad comes out in the Tuesday Oregonian Food/Day section but those sales start the next day on Wednesday.

4. Look at the Grocery ad & look specifically for sale items and match the sale item with coupons you have. This will save you money and keep your OOP (Out of Pocket) expense low. Also, if the sale price item is fairly inexpensive you will want to stock up on these items since you are getting them at rock bottom prices. You can see some of our Stockpiling Here.

5. If you are new to shopping at Walgreens you will want to get their weekly ad from the Sunday paper or at the store. You can usually find the ad when you walk through the front door, along with the EasySaver Rebate Catalog booklet that has additional "Store coupons" that can be used with Manufacturer coupons (mfq's). The Oregonian Newspaper has a flyer for a subscription when you sign up for a 7-day Service for $4.25/week or $3/Week Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
