Make It Yourself Monday

BROWNIE MIX IN A BOX (from scratch)

Okay, so you had to know this was coming after the cookie mix post. Can you tell I have a sweet tooth? I blame pregnancy.

Actually, confession time. I made brownies from scratch for the first time just about a month ago. Yep, first time. I have since made them a few more times, knowing I was going to do a post on it. You know, research!

If you like moist, super fudgy brownies, than this is the recipe for you. They are yummy, and my entire family will vouch for that! And the best part is that the mix is literally only 5 ingredients long.

Brownie Mix in a Jar

Adapted from an All Recipes recipe

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups sugar
  • optional: 1/2 cup nuts or coconut flakes (I like coconut)

Directions:

1. Mix together flour, baking powder, salt cocoa powder and sugar and place in a quart jar.

2. Attach a tag with the following instructions: Brownie Mix in a Jar 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan. 2. Empty jar of brownie mix into a large mixing bowl, and stir to blend. Mix in 1 cup melted butter, 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 3 eggs. Mix thoroughly. Spread batter evenly into prepared baking pan. 3. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely in pan before cutting into 2 inch squares.

The finished product.

Also, don't forget that this is National Teacher's Appreciation Week, and if you are looking for a gift idea, this would make a great one. To make it prettier, you could find a unique container to put the mix in or just layer the dry ingredients instead of mixing them together.

Thanks for the recipe! I just printed it out, my girls love brownies! I used a brownie mix the other day and instead of putting oil I tried the applesauce. They turned out, but were more like a cake texture. My little girls didn't like them, but my teenager who eats healthy loved them!
