Make It Yourself Monday

I mentioned trail mix as a snack idea in a previous post. I've done some research since then and made my own. Good news is it wasn't rocket science!

Here's a list of ingredient ideas that I've come up with:
  • nuts - walnuts, almonds, peanuts, cashews
  • dried fruit - cranberries, bananas, rasins, apricots, cherries, apples
  • chocolate chips or M&M's
  • seeds - sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds
  • pretzils or crackers like goldfish that won't crumble easily
  • cereal - chex, cheerios

Basic Trail Mix Recipe:

Pick about five of the above ingredient ideas, and combine one half cup of each in a big bowl. Store in an airtight container or eat immediately.

I combined raisins, dried bananas, peanuts, dried date pieces and raw pumpkin seeds. My kids love it!

See? Super simple, healthy, and you can give yourself a pat on the back for being such a good mommy and healthy snack giver!

one really good combo is almonds, dried cherries and chocolate chips; another is soy nuts, dried cranberries, and chocolate chips - thsi would be good with pepitas as well.

I love making my own trail mix...so many easy possibilities! Right now, I've been on a kick with walnuts, peanuts, and a double dose of raisins. It reminds me of peanut butter and jelly with the nuts and sweetness.
