Ever been to Bob's Red Mill?

Okay, so I'm SUPER excited about this! Seriously. Like, I haven't been this excited about grocery shopping in a long time. (Hmmm, so I need to get out a little more...and sorry in advance to those of you who are not in the Portland area!). Here's the deal...I think I've mentioned before that one of my goals this year is to take our family organic. And of course, the challenge of that is to do so on a budget.

I noticed in the Chinook Book that there were a few coupons for Bob's Red Mill, and I decided to check it out while I had a little free time (mother-in-law was watching the girls & Aspen was in school). I couldn't believe the selection of products! A huge gluten-free section, and everything from rice to flour to baking mixes, and much more.

Here's what I got:
25 lbs. Organic Whole Wheat Pastry Flour $24.65
And the rest from the bulk bins:
  • Medium ground cornmeal $.68/lb.
  • Pumpkin seeds $4.59/lb.
  • Date pieces $2.83/lb.
  • Aluminum-free baking powder $1.73/lb.
  • Banana chips $2.28/lb.
  • Buttermilk pancake mix made w/ organic flour $1.38/lb.

Used: Get Half Off Any Organic Product coupon in Chinook book -$12.32

Final Total: $24.50! Can you see me doing the happy dance?

I've been trying to figure out how the heck we are going to go organic on such a limited budget ($250/month). Now I have more hope! So, are you wondering what I will do with so much pastry flour? Christina and I are planning on trading! I'll give her half of mine, and she's going to buy a 25 lb. bag of Organic White Flour (same price) and give me half.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure if I'll be able to make my budget (I only have $101 left for the month - not good for the 10th!), But I love a challenge. I'll let you know if I'm able to pull it off... :)

Next time you head to the Red Mill, don't forget to stop at Killer Dave's across the street! Their bread is to die for,and pretty darn good for you. :) Oh,and there are BOGO coupons in the Clipper magazine that comes in the mail, and if you sign up for Killer Dave's newsletter, they'll email you a BOGO coupon.

Thanks! I actually plan on stopping there next month. I already have quite a bit of organic bread in my freezer and am already really low on the grocery budget for the month!

I can't wait to try their bread out though.

This is my favorite coupon in the Chinook Book! I loves Bob's Red Mill and it is nice to know you are supporting a great local company. If you make your own bread you can easily go through the 25# bag in 2-3 months.
