Financial Goals

I am so excited to start a 2010 Financial Goals and Cash Envelope System for our family.

Just to recap about myself. I use to work full time at OHSU from 2001 to 2007. When I had my first child, I worked part-time 3 days a week from 2007-2009. During that time my husband worked full-time, but was planning on going back to school for a Masters degree as a MLS. In June I was laid off due to the economy. Since I was part-time, I'm sure my employer paid more to have me, than to not. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I was already about 5 months pregnant and knew that I wanted to be a SAHM.

My husband graduated his program in December and is now working.
With that said, we have a lot of financial goals that we would like to meet this year, which includes putting our house on the market since he is now commuting an hour and 10 minutes to and from work.

SO these are our baby steps for February Financial Goals 2010:

1. Start Cash Envelope System for:

Groceries $250
Household $30-$50
(diapers/wipes, toiletries, and cleaning products)
Allowance for myself $100
(this may seem like a lot but this will be my first trial run)
Clothes $150 (usually every other month)

2. Save up $3000

3. Put $80 a week in Savings

4. Give to someone in need

5. Pay off personal loan (almost there!)

6. Pay off our Land Rover

7. Save up money for another car or vacation, not sure just yet??

Also, I came across this blog: Simple Mom and she has great advice on saving money etc...
